MIXED SIGNALS is Antony Perring’s debut exhibition.
The quilts and textile works in this collection are an exploration of language and labels, and the power and meaning that we give to words.
Antony’s unconventional use of traditional patchwork techniques combined with his use of text - often with touches on humour - highlight how language is used to create confusion and misunderstanding.
The work explores the value we give to words, and how labels create expectations.
Antony hopes the viewer will question how labels define identity and our place in the world, and who holds the power over which labels are applied and when.

ARTIST’S TALK
Filmed on JULY 9 at Grafton Regional Gallery - introduced by Gallery Director Sarah Gurich, this is a video of my talk through most of the pieces in the show, my inspiration, the importance of language and some nerdy font stuff, all up it was a good time with a great group of interested and supportive attendees.
