THE DOCTOR

First ever quilt and a Timelord.

What you don’t know, you don’t know.

I started learning how to quilt in January 2021 as a New Year’s resolution of sorts, a way to direct my creativity and distract from the great unpleasantness of the pandemic.

David’s Mum is a quilter, and I’ve been sewing things since I was about 12, so I thought I’d give it a crack.

I don’t really like the look of traditional quilts, modern designs and geometry and solid colours speak to me more than pretty florals, so this Krista Moser pattern sparked my interest. I guess when you don’t know something is supposed to be hard (partial seems apparently) you just problem solve your way through it.

It wasn’t until my friend Jodie mentioned the Doctor Who-ness of the interlocking hexagons that it all clicked. It’s micro-quilted (again, what you don’t know…) and there’s an embroidered morse code quote around the perimeter.
