BIG CHEVRON
Learn a basic block, mix it up to make something fun.
Flexing my creative muscles.
Sometimes I have too many ideas and not enough time to get them all happening.
There are also times when the creative juices just refuse to flow, or there’s a sense of almost dread when I look at the sewing machine.
Writers block for a quilter is I suppose more likely '‘sewists block’, but whatever the moniker it’s frustrating when I know I want to sit down to something but I don’t have a very specific idea of what exactly that something is.
Introducing the BIG CHEVRON - my funk buster.
When I’ve been faced with a wall of doubt this year I’ve cracked out a BIG CHEVRON project to get my mojo back.
It’s not a huge commitment - just a 40”x40” (100cmx100cm) square project. An opportunity to play without committing to anything huge.
So far this year I’ve cranked out two - PINK and GREEN. Each of them an opportunity to experiment with improv piecing (PINK) and half-rectangle triangles.
They’re also a great way to use up scraps - there’s really no such thing as a scrap - and to mess around with colour and quilting designs.
I highly recommend giving yourself a tight brief, use all your scraps, only choose two colours, see what you can do with a log cabin block, but start with a random 5 sided shape at the centre etc. Then see where your creativity goes from there.
