ONE DAY I WON’T HAVE TO EXPLAIN WHY I AM NOT BROKEN

There is nothing to fix here.

Different is just different - not broken, faulty or less than. Nobody owes you an explanation.

When I first came out as a gay man to just a few trusted friends the world was still a very different place.

There have been amazing strides in recognition in law of people as they authentically are.

Our relationships are on equal legal footing, but in reality and in many hearts the differences that divide us are more present than the simple things that we share.

Perhaps one day, one mystical future point in time it won’t be necessary for anyone to justify who they are, how they live, how they love.

This piece uses the colour bars, the default position for a screen when the inputs or program are unable to be displayed. The inference is that even among the static, distortion and break in transmission none of us should be required to justify who we are.

The heavy machine quilting of a shadow version of the colour bars has distorted the quilt and twisted the fabric to the point where I’ve embraced the uneven edges.
